User Friendly is the first online comic to which I ever subscribed. You may want to take a look at this one just for grins. If you're new to this strip, I recommend starting from the beginning. This will take a while (as in probably a few days). I hope your boss isn't expecting a project completed anytime soon.
Sluggy Freelance was recommended to me by a very dear person. When I tuned in to it in mid-June of 2001, it didn't make sense to me at all. In late September, I decided to go read the entire archive from the beginning (hey, I was out of work). See my commentary regarding this in the User Friendly link above.
Leo Schwab
This fellow is an absolute master of computer graphics. He had his fifteen
minutes of fame in the days of the fabled Amiga computer -- a system with
more graphics firepower than most high-end workstations of the time, and with
more intelligently laid out graphics firepower than just about any
other machine I've ever seen. If I can ever convince him to give me the
source to "Marketroid: 2084", I will port it to X and post it.
(By the way, Leo -- You REALLY need to update your page!)
The Normality Factor
This lady has a rather unique viewpoint on life, best illustrated in her
page, The Normality Factor. She is a very talented person in the areas of
writing, graphic art, web design, and I understand she can make a really mean
roux.
Eric S. Raymond
This fellow is an amazing writer. He has so much thought flow
that makes it onto his web site and beyond, and all of it in my eyes
has proven sensible. Fighter for the First and Second Amendments (yes,
he is a self-confessed Gun Nut. Read his site before you jump to
contusions).
Defender of the Free Internet. Open Source Initiative's president.
Freedom with teeth.
Regardless of the fact that I don't ever want to have to touch a firearm (but that is MY choice, not my Government's!), he's someone I want on my side when the End of the World party happens.
Notes From
The Edge
This is the official site for Yes, easily the best Progressive Rock group on
the face of the planet bar none. What do you get when you take some of the
thoughtfulness and musical talent of Rush, some of the harmonies of Crosby
Stills and Nash, and some of the intense intricacies of Emerson Lake and
Palmer and put them in a blender? It ain't a mai-tai, bucko. If you've
never listened to Yes, you really, really ought to. They're spiritually
very uplifting without being preachy or totally religious -- a balance
which seems almost impossible for most people in the world today to grasp.
I recommend that you begin your journey with
Fragile, Close to the Edge, Going for the One and listen
to Yessongs for the live stuff, and then see where your head is. NOTE:
If you really have no hope for this world, the music probably won't make
sense. If you have any shred of hope or spirit, and you're down, these boys
will take you to complete exultation. See them live the next time they're in
town -- you may not get another chance.
Visual Pinball
Welcome to the world of computer pinball! Programmers Randy Davis and
Chris Leathley have really done a number, here. For pinball aficionados
who can't find their favourite tables anywhere, or anymore at all!, this
site is for you. Coupled with the vPinMAME
Project, some of the best tables ever made can now be enjoyed in
their entirety.
